The collaboration aims to derive fundamental principles of how microbial ecosystems assemble and function.
Our work centers around shared experimental model communities composed of marine bacteria that interact with hotspots of organic matter in the ocean. Substantial progress has been made in characterizing these organisms from the perspective of their physiology, their interactions within communities, their spatial behavior and their impact on carbon dynamics in the ocean.
