Johannes is fascinated by how species interactions and migration together determine the composition and function of bacterial communities. To study this experimentally he is currently developing a microfluidic device to observe polysaccharide particle colonization and degradation by marine bacteria on the single cell level. At times, his old love for chemotaxis in model system E coli resurfaces.
